Muslin vs linen for baby pajamas: why we chose muslin

Is muslin the same as linen? No. Muslin is cotton, woven in an open, loose weave. Linen is spun from the flax plant and woven tighter and flatter. Both breathe, which is why the comparison keeps coming up, but for sleepwear worn all night against a child's skin, muslin cotton vs linen is not a close call. Muslin is soft from the first wear and moves more air through the fabric, while linen stays firm and needs a long break-in before it gives. • Temperature-regulating by weave, not by gadget. The open muslin structure lets excess heat escape while keeping a soft layer on the skin, comfortable through warm, humid nights. Linen breathes too, but its tighter weave moves less air.
• Soft on night one. Pre-washed, double-layer muslin with gentle seams. It arrives soft and gets softer with every wash, and pajamas get washed a lot. New linen is stiff against new skin and takes a long time to soften.
• Long sleeves with a purpose. Coverage for evening mosquitoes and cold air-conditioning, without the heaviness of fleece or thick jersey.
• Nothing tight, nothing twisted. A relaxed cut that moves with a rolling, wriggling sleeper.
• Dries fast in wet season. Thin cotton layers shed water quickly, which counts when pajamas go through the wash every other day and the air is already damp.

Sizes and colours. The set comes in 66, 80 and 100, roughly 6-9 months, 12-18 months and 2-3 years, in brown and cream. In this climate, size up. A looser fit breathes better overnight and buys you a few more months of wear.
