A lot of parents wash new baby clothes out of habit, mostly to remove any dust from packing and shipping before the fabric touches a newborn's skin. With Epic pieces, that step is already done: our muslin is pre-washed in production, so what arrives is soft and ready to wear, not stiff or straight off a factory line. If you'd still rather give everything one more wash before baby wears it, go ahead, it won't hurt the fabric at all.
When you do wash, keep it simple: cold water, gentle cycle, and either tumble dry low or hang to dry. Skip fabric softener, it clogs up the open weave that makes muslin breathable in the first place, and skip high heat, which is harder on the double-layer cotton and the flat seams over time. That same routine works for every wash after the first one too.
One thing to know before you unbag anything: muslin creases easily, straight out of the packaging and after washing. That's just how a loose, open weave behaves, it's normal, not a flaw, and each wash actually softens the fabric more, so the clothes get comfier the longer you've had them.
