Muslin cotton playsuits that keep active toddlers cool through humid Bali days. Soft, durable and easy to move in.
A playsuit solves the problem of a toddler who is on a beach in the morning, a floor at lunch and a scooter by four. It is a single piece, so nothing rides up or separates during any of that, and in muslin it stays breathable through the parts of the day when a cotton jersey equivalent would be soaked. The trade-off is the nappy change, which is why the openings run the full length rather than just at the shoulder.
These are cut with deliberate slack at the shoulder and through the seat, because a playsuit that fits precisely restricts exactly the movements a toddler makes most — squatting, reaching overhead, climbing. Muslin does not stretch, so the room has to be built into the pattern rather than borrowed from the fabric. Size up if your child is between sizes or mid-growth-spurt.
Muslin dries fast, which is the practical argument for travelling with two playsuits rather than five of something heavier. A rinse in a sink at night is dry by morning in most tropical conditions. Wash cool, skip the softener, and expect the fabric to soften noticeably over the first month of wear.
