Making muslin starts with plain, ordinary cotton yarn. The difference is in the weave: instead of packing the threads tight, the loom spaces them out, so you get a fabric with a loose, almost see-through structure. Those small gaps let air move through the cloth, which is why muslin breathes better than tightly packed cotton. It's a simple process, really, just cotton and space.
At Epic we use a double layer of muslin cotton, already washed before we cut it, so it reaches you soft instead of stiff. We sew with flat seams so nothing rubs against a baby's skin, and we finish each piece with child-safe dyes and no harsh chemical treatments.
Because muslin is loosely woven, it needs a bit of care to last: wash cold on a gentle cycle, then tumble dry low or just hang it to dry. Skip fabric softener and high heat, both of which flatten the weave and cut down on breathability.
