For hot weather, look for double-layer muslin cotton with an open weave: it lets air through and dries fast after a heat-sticky day. A muslin hat keeps sun off a baby's head. A muslin towel works as a light cover-up or stroller shade, and it gets softer with every wash.

We live in Bali, so we make clothes for exactly this kind of heat. Muslin cotton is woven loose on purpose, and that open weave is what makes it breathable and quick to dry. Our pieces are double-layer, pre-washed so they're already soft, and finished with flat seams and child-safe dyes.
A simple hat in the same breathable muslin, good for keeping direct sun off a baby's head on a walk or at the beach.
Doubles as a towel, a light cover, or a stroller shade, and the loose weave means it doesn't trap heat against skin.
Same idea as the towel but reversible, so you get two looks and two uses out of one piece.
The open weave lets air move through the fabric more than a tightly woven cotton would, which is why so many parents in warm climates reach for it. It also dries fast after a wash or a spit-up.
Wash cold on a gentle cycle and skip the fabric softener since it coats the fibers and keeps them from breathing well. Tumble dry low or hang, and expect some creasing: that's normal for this weave.
