For a newborn's first bath, look for a double-layer muslin towel with an open, loose weave: it dries fast, stays breathable, and gets softer with every wash.

We get asked a lot about towels for those first few baths, so here's what we actually think matters: muslin's loose weave makes it breathable and quick to dry, which is handy when you're using it several times a day. It isn't anything fancy, just a simple weave that gets softer each time you wash it. Double-layer muslin is worth choosing over single-layer because one layer alone can feel thin against newborn skin.
