We built our muslin pieces around our own family's travel days, the kind where you land somewhere hot and step off a plane somewhere cold a week later. Muslin's loose weave breathes when the air is thick and layers flat and thin when it isn't, so the same few pieces can do more of the work. We are not going to pretend one wardrobe solves every climate, but a few smart layers get you closer.
A full set doubles as a light layer in the heat and a base layer under something warmer once the temperature drops.
Works as a daytime top and pants in a hot climate, or as an extra layer under a sleep sack once nights turn cool.
Easy to pull on over a bodysuit for extra warmth, or wear alone when it's warm, without adding much bulk to a bag.
A single loose layer that breathes in the heat and slides under a sweater once you land somewhere cold.

On its own, muslin is a warm-weather fabric. For cold climates, layer a muslin pajama or pants under a proper coat or fleece rather than relying on muslin alone.
