Fabric comparison
Muslin cotton pants and other Epic bottoms come from the same cloth Epic sources: double-layer muslin cotton, pre-washed so it lands soft from the first wear. What changes is the shape, not the fibre. A skirt swings open around the legs, while pants cover all the way down to the ankle, and both handle the heat well in their own way.

| Fibre and construction | Epic's Muslin Dress uses double-layer muslin cotton, pre-washed so it already feels soft, with flat seams and child-safe dyes. | Muslin cotton pants are cut from that same double-layer muslin, pre-washed and finished the same way. Only the pattern changes, from a skirt panel to two legs. |
| Breathability | A skirt hangs loose from the waist, so air moves under and around the legs with nothing closing off at the ankle. | Pants still breathe well thanks to muslin's open weave, but more fabric sits against the skin from hip to ankle. |
| Weight and feel | The skirt barely touches the legs when a toddler walks or runs, so it feels almost like wearing nothing extra. | Pants feel just as light in the hand, but an elastic waist and hem bring the fabric a bit closer to the skin. |
| Hot weather performance | On a hot, humid day, a loose skirt-style bottom can give more airflow than pants, because the legs are not covered to the ankle. | Pants trade some airflow for coverage, which matters when the sun is strong or insects are out in the evening. |
| Movement and durability | A skirt moves well for walking, running, and sitting, but it leaves the knees bare, with no extra layer there for a crawling or climbing toddler. | Pants cover the knees, which holds up better on rough ground, decks, or sand when a toddler is crawling, climbing, or often on the floor. |
| Best for | A skirt suits a toddler who is mostly upright and on the move in the heat, and makes nappy or potty breaks quick. | Pants suit a toddler who is still crawling or climbing, or needs legs covered from sun or insects, and work for cooler mornings too. |
Choose a loose, open leg bottom (for example the Muslin Dress) if your toddler is up and moving most of the day and you want more airflow in the heat.
Choose muslin cotton pants if your toddler is still crawling or climbing, or needs their legs covered from sun, insects, or cooler air.
