Fabric comparison
A romper and a playsuit are both one-piece outfits, and at Epic we cut both from the same double-layer muslin cotton: an open, loose weave that lets air move through the cloth. The fabric underneath is identical, so the real difference between the two comes down to cut and fit, not the cotton itself. We will walk through both here so you can pick the shape that suits your baby's age and the way they move.

| Muslin Cotton Romper | Muslin Cotton Playsuit | |
|---|---|---|
| Fibre & construction | Cut from the same double-layer muslin cotton as every Epic piece: an open, loose weave sewn with flat seams and finished with child-safe dyes. | Uses the identical double-layer muslin cotton, woven the same way and finished the same way. The fabric does not change between styles. |
| Breathability | The fitted, close-to-body cut still lets air pass through the open weave, so the fabric breathes even where it sits snug against the skin. | The looser leg openings give air even more room to move around the fabric, which can feel a touch airier on a hot day. |
| Weight & feel | Lightweight, like all muslin, and it softens more with every wash, same as the rest of the fabric. | Just as lightweight, since it is cut from the same cloth. Expect the same gradual softening wash after wash. |
| Hot-weather performance | Muslin's open weave keeps this cool for warm climates. The snugger fit means slightly less fabric billowing in a breeze. | The relaxed cut catches more air as your baby moves, which can make it feel cooler on the most humid days. |
| Softness & durability | Pre-washed before it ships so it arrives soft, and it keeps softening with each wash at home. Creasing easily is normal for muslin and does not affect durability. | Same pre-washed start and the same softening over time. It creases just as easily, which is simply how muslin behaves. |
| Best for | A snugger, one-piece shape that works well for younger babies who are not yet crawling or walking much. | A looser, more open leg shape that gives a bit more room to move, which suits babies who are crawling or getting increasingly active. |
Choose the Muslin Cotton Romper if you want a snugger, close-fitting one-piece for a younger baby, made from Epic's breathable, pre-washed double-layer muslin cotton.
Choose the Muslin Cotton Playsuit if you want a looser, more open cut with extra room to move, cut from the same breathable double-layer muslin cotton Epic uses for every piece.
