Fabric comparison
Both bloom-skort and blossom-skirt show up on warm-day packing lists, but they're built differently under the surface. Our bloom-skort is cut from Epic's double-layer muslin cotton with built-in shorts for climbing and running around. A blossom-skirt is usually a single layer with no shorts underneath, so the two end up suiting different kinds of days.

|---|---|---|
| fibre & construction | Double-layer muslin cotton, woven loose and open so air moves through both layers, sewn with flat seams and finished with child-safe dyes. | Typically a single layer of woven cotton, often a tighter, more standard weave rather than open-weave muslin. |
| breathability | The open muslin weave lets air pass through easily, and two thin layers still breathe better than one dense one. | A tighter single-layer weave breathes fine in a breeze but holds a little more heat against the skin than an open weave does. |
| weight & feel | Light in the hand even with two layers, because muslin itself is a loose, light cloth, and it keeps softening with every wash. | A plain cotton skirt can feel light too, depending on the fabric chosen, though it won't soften the same way an open-weave muslin does over time. |
| hot-weather performance | Made for warm, humid days: the layered muslin dries quickly after a splash and doesn't cling to the skin. | Fine in the sun for shorter stretches, but a single tighter-woven layer can feel warmer once a child is running around. |
| softness & durability | Pre-washed before it ships so it arrives soft, and the loose weave keeps relaxing wash after wash. It creases easily, which is just how muslin behaves. | Softness comes down to the specific cotton used, some skirts are soft from the first wash, others take a few washes to relax, and how much they crease varies by weave. |
| best-for | Active toddlers who climb, sit on the ground, or need shorts underneath without a parent having to think about it. | Everyday wear or dressier moments where a simple skirt shape is what you want, paired with shorts or leggings underneath for active play. |
Choose bloom-skort if you want built-in shorts, an open muslin weave that breathes and dries fast, and one less thing to think about before your toddler runs off to climb something.
Choose blossom-skirt if you like a classic skirt silhouette and don't mind adding shorts or leggings underneath for active play.
