Start simple. A first outfit set is a few bodysuits or rompers for everyday wear, a couple of long-sleeve layers for cooler nights, and two or three swaddle cloths that double as burp cloths. Muslin cotton works well for most of it because the loose weave lets air move and helps keep a newborn from overheating indoors. Sizing trips up most new dads. Babies grow fast in the first months, so buying a size ahead of the current weight usually pays off; we go into the reasoning in sizing up in muslin clothes.
